#WeAreSTL

I hope you all have had a very happy and blessed Thanksgiving!  Ours was one filled with family, and thankfully, we still have another full day tomorrow of Thanksgiving with Matt’s side of the family!  Thanksgiving never fails to be one of my absolute favorite holidays of the year, and this year was no exception!  From the food to our family to just the love and blessings you feel all around, it is truly a wonderful day!  Plus, getting to spend a few extra days off with this little turkey makes it totally worth it as well…

However, as thankful as I am for everything in my life right now, there is turmoil all around me.  Many of you who have been reading my blog for any period of time know that I was born and raised in the suburbs of St. Louis.  Ferguson, Missouri is just a short 15 to 20 minute drive away from my home.  My dad grew up not far from Ferguson and my brother lives and works just a few miles from the heart of where all these riots have been taking place.  I received my teaching certificate just down the street from the heart of Ferguson and have spent time running races and dining in the city as well.

To see the city that I have known and loved for the last 30 years on national news as a place of hatred breaks my heart, as it does for the majority of the people living in the city and suburbs of St. Louis.  So, a group of local bloggers, led by one of my dear friends Katie of Mom’s Little Running Buddy, have decided to spread the word about all the good and amazing things our beloved city has to offer.  St. Louis is more than a place of racism and hate.  It is our home and a truly amazing one at that…

I am…

A teacher, coach, working mom, and local runner.

St. Louis is…

Full of life, friendly, home of the best sports fans around, and my home.

I love…

Main Street St. Charles (especially this time of year), the Katy Trail, the Cardinals, Rams, and Blues, and frozen custard.

I know most of my readers are local friends and family, but for those of you who do not live in St. Louis, please know that this city has so much more to offer!  It is not the place of hate that you see on TV and is actually filled with some of the friendliest people in the country.  I can’t imagine raising my children anywhere else.  St. Louis is and always will be my home…

If you want to participate in #WeAreSTL, head on over to Katie’s blog for more details.  If you’re a blogger, you can linkup your post; if you’re not, feel free to use the hashtag #WeAreSTL and post your “I am”, “St. Louis is”, and “I love” responses to your social media pages.
