I am SO very excited to have the opportunity to introduce you to another one of my AMAZING runners! I have been working with Kelly since March and I am absolutely in awe of her journey. As you’ll read below, Kelly started running as a way to lose weight. Not only has she lost over 100 pounds in the last 9 months, she’s also found a new passion that will keep her healthy for the rest of her life! I LOVE getting her messages about each one of her runs because it motivates ME to get out the door and push my body. If Kelly doesn’t inspire you to want to get out the door and RUN, to want to start living a healthier lifestyle (regardless if you are a runner now or in the future), I don’t know what will!
Name: Kelly Smith
Hometown: Parrish, Alabama
Number of years running: 9 Months
Favorite Distance to Run: Any
Favorite or Most Memorable Race: I haven’t raced yet but will very soon.
Biggest/Best Running Accomplishment:
The biggest accomplishment for me was getting out the door and doing it. No more excuses. I let a lot of things become my excuse in the past. No more! The day I walked out the door for my first run was the day I found my Want was bigger and stronger than my excuses.
Why did you decide to join the Elite Running Academy?
During the 3 week program I saw improvements in my workouts, in my runs and in my attitude towards daily running. At the end of the three weeks I knew I was headed in the right direction and I knew the only way to hit my major goals for the year was to keep this structured training plan going. After talking to Kristen, I knew she wanted me to reach my goal just as bad as I did and I knew she would help me the whole way. She has done just that since I joined. What I have learned and accomplished is worth every penny I have spent. My husband has even noticed my improvements and encourages me to continue the Elite Running Academy. New and old runners, I encourage you to try a month. If you do not see improvements and you have done the work then opt out but if you see the improvements, I promise you will not want to stop.
What have you gained from working with a running coach?
With my coach’s help I am completing workouts I would have never thought I could. I am stronger and faster with every run and workout. I have accountability that I never had on my own. I have access to her through email or social media whenever I have a question or need a little extra encouragement. I have a workout/run schedule made out a month in advance so if something comes up, I can still find a way to get my workouts in.
Advice to someone who is just starting to run:
Dear new runner,
It will hurt in the beginning. You will want to quit. You will get blisters. You will probably shed a few tears. Do Not Quit! It is in those moments that you figure out just how strong you really are. I still hurt some days. I still get blisters. I still question if I can do it and I still cry. I cry now because I accomplished another goal in my training. I started running to lose weight but I ended up loving it and questioned just how far could I push my body. It is amazing what our body can do when we train it the right way. I have lost a significant amount of weight but the best part is, I found something I am passionate about and that it allows me to live a healthier life. Take that first step out the door and never look back.
YOU can be just like Kelly! Kelly only started 9 months ago. She’s losing weight, achieving goals, and getting FASTER with each and every run! I BELIEVE in YOU – you just have to put the work in and the results will come!
