The real reason we decided to go to Branson (well, the only reason we really ever go to Branson) is to hit up Silver Dollar City.  This is really Matt’s “happy place” – he has been coming here the past 30 years.  Before I met Matt, I had only been to Branson once – when I was 18 months old – and according to my parents, it was the trip from H-E-double hockey sticks.  So, my love for Branson really stems from my love for my darling husband.

Really, I just go for the food, even if I am only there to smell it!  SDC has been named #2 Best Food in Amusement Today in 2009.  And seriously, the food is amazing, and I can’t even eat half of it.  But, of what I have eaten, I was blown away.  (I choose to ignore the tubs of vegetable shortening sitting next to the skillets; plus, I’m on vacation, so I feel like I can have that occasional treat.)

The first place we go when we walk in is this bakery.  When we decide to retire/move to Branson, this is where I WILL be working.

They make fresh bread + cinnamon pull-apart bread daily at the SECOND bakery in the park.

And of course, delicious, old-time skillet cooking.  Some vegetarian, some not so much.

Believe it or not, I have actually NEVER, in the 9.5 years Matt and I have been together, had the fresh made ice cream in SDC.  This will change this summer, I promise.

Oh, the candy shop!  There is always samples of peanut brittle or fudge or BOTH, which we just so happened to come on a day where they had both.  Not my favorite fudge, but still pretty darn good.

More not-so-vegetarian skillet cooking, but this is by far the best place to get food in the park.  Fried okra, succotash, and potatoes – all to die for.

Matt’s go-to take home food from SDC – fresh made kettle corn.

One of the big things I am craving right now, any type of French fries/potatoes with ketchup.  And these are the coolest things ever.

So, there you have it.  A day of food in Silver Dollar City.  I didn’t get a chance to eat any of it, besides the samples, this weekend, but I was enjoying veggie burgers and frozen custard instead.  Who says you can’t have good food, albeit not healthy, in an amusement park?
