Hi, I’m Kristen and this is my blog where I write about balancing my love for frozen custard (and other sweets), being a new mom, and a healthy, active lifestyle.
I am a born + raised St. Louisan and frozen custard has always been a big part of my life. Growing up in St. Louis, frozen custard is a summer staple in these parts, thanks to places like Ted Drewes’ and Fritz’s Frozen Custard. Not only did I grow up on the rich + creamy treat, but I spent 5 summers of my high school + college years working at Fritz’s, which is where I met the love of my life + soul mate, Matt.
Although I could probably eat a frozen custard concrete (think: a DQ blizzard) every meal of every day, I live by the motto of “everything in moderation”. By staying active and eating mostly REAL, nutrious food, I believe any diet has room for the occasional treat.
I absolutely love being active and living a healthy lifestyle, so much so that I decided to make it my career. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science along with a second degree in Physical Education, hold 2 fitness specialist certifications (NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and ACSM Health Fitness Specialist), and am now enjoying teaching elementary aged children how to stay active and healthy. I am also a vegetarian and competitive runner. To date, I have run several 5Ks and 10Ks (winning a few along the way), a handful of half marathons, and 2 full marathons (the most recent being the Chicago Marathon on 10.10.10).
In October 2011, I took on a new role: I became a mom! Our precious little baby, MacKenna, has completely changed my life for the better. However, life as a mom doesn’t come without a little sacrifice. I am still learning to balance my running/training life with spending quality time with my daughter. It’s a work in progress but it gets easier everyday.
